Assessment 1 Steps 3 & 5

Hello everyone this is my draft of steps three and five all together. I know that I have already included step 3 in the assessment tab though I thought i would put them all together into one easier document. Please have a read and if you could leave some feedback that would be very much appreciated. If anyone has a draft they would like me to go over as well I would be more than happy.

Thoughts on week 2

I feel that week 2 flew by and now we are already nearly half way through week 3. Oh wow. I feel a little stressed although I am slowly progress through my assessment pieces (I uploaded a draft of my Step 3 to the Assessment 1 page). I am also worried that I am trying to get all these steps of the assessment for this unit and I still have assessments and readings for other classes. How will I get it all done? Breaking everything into small chunks is how I will approach my other essays I think that will make it a lot easier and less stressful. How is everyone else feeling?

Information on my company

The company I was given is AHG (Automotive Holdings Group) they were established in 1952 and have grown to be Australia’s largest automotive retailing and logistics group. They have 182 retail franchises at 113 dealership locations. AHG operates in every state in Australia and also in New Zealand. They also have a refrigerated logistics division and are Australia’s largest provider of integrated temperature controlled transport and cold storage services. Their other logistics businesses include AMCAP, GTB (Genuine Truck Bodies), VSE (Vehicle Storage and Engineering Solutions), KTM Sport motorcycles and Husqvarna. As of 2018 they employ over 8,400 staff. It also appears that in Queensland AHG runs through the dealership Zupps which became appart of the AHG in 2007. The sell new and used vehicles, including cars, motorcycles and trucks, and also refrigerated vehicles. AHG are very invested in caring for their employees with an employee benefit scheme, which includes health and well-being benefits to get discounts and medical check up including free flu vaccinations for employees. They also give employees deals on a range of leading car brands, parts and services, they support employees who are interested in give back to charities and they assist and support their employees who are dealing with personal problems that impact their work performance.

There has also very recently been a proposed merger between AHG and A.P. Eagers which are Australia’s two largest new-car dealerships, which would make them a 1.8 billion dollar entity. This merger would give the two combined company’s a competitive advantage over the majority of the automotive market, and due to a recent significant drop in share prices for AHG this could be advantageous to them.

If anyone else has a company in retail or automotive industry and would like to discuss their company feel free leave a comment.

Thoughts on Week One

Wow! What a week that was. Week one has been a great experience for me and I hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as I did. I have learnt so many things already and done so many things that I thought I would never do, one of which was creating a blog, yet here I am. I am still wrapping my head around all the new concepts I have learnt such as the KCQs (which I had not heard until this unit), business reality, and all the accounting based concepts like ledgers, journals, equity, assets, liabilities, revenue, expenses and more. Though I know that with time and effort I will have these down pat. On the whole, week one has been a great week and I look forward to everything that is to come.

As the sun sets on week one I feel confident and excited.
